Synopsis

Product Description
Acclaimed for her lush harmonies and atmospheric arrangements, Mary McLaughlin gifts us with a collection of Christmas carols and hymns all sung in the Irish Gaelic language. The material spans several centuries and includes traditional Irish carols such as The Wexford Carol as well as Gaelic versions of beloved Victorian carols like I Saw Three Ships and Silent Night. Guest musicians include Steve Coulter (harp), Barry Phillips (cellos), Steafan Hannigan (percussion, uiilleann pipes), Robin Petrie (hammered dulcimer), Danny Carnahan (octave mandolin) and Bill Coulter (guitar). Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Mary McLaughlin has been performing, teaching writing and recording original and traditional songs (in both English and Gaelic) for many years. Mary appears on over twelve recordings including the highly acclaimed releases Celtic Voices (Narada label), Celtic Requiem (Windham Hill label) and Daughter of Lir (Gourd Music label). She was also the featured singer on Michael Whalen's score for the PBS special Lost Liners in 2000. In 2002 Mary's instructional Book/CD set Singing in Irish Gaelic was published by Mel Bay. Mary released Crystal Shoe in 2004 on Gourd Music. This exciting recording not only showcases her songwriting and lavish vocals but also features such musical luminaries as Radim Zenkl and Robin Bullock.
