CD Reviews

A handful of the early recordings remastered for 24 bit STER

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Beacause of the fact that "The Master", the legendary boxed set of Marvin Gaye hits contain only MONO versions of his old material, I am forced to buy these little collections like this "Playlist Plus". This MONO problem is one of the main reasons why I bother to write revues of cd releases. People need to be warned about what they are buying. If they knew that many recordings were MONO, they probably would'nt buy them. People from the 60's tend to want to hear high quality recordings in STEREO the way they were presented upon original release. The younger folks of today are accustomed to low quality, compressed, MP3 music reproduction and therefore have little regard for sound quality. It is a wonderful thing to hear songs like 'Baby Don't You Do It', 'Chained' and 'You' in 24 bit STEREO. I can only give this collection 4 stars because disc 3 should have had more of the earlier Marvin Gaye stuff plus they could have put twice as many songs in this collection. Maybe someday Universal Music will learn to treat older STEREO material, older artists and older people with a little more respect."
