CD Reviews

Martin - at the top of his form!

"Tonight (2008.10.30) I saw Martin Taylor in concert for the first time - at Yoshi's, Oakland, CA - and I purchased this CD at the show.

I confess that I'm a late-comer to the 'Martin Taylor' party - only having learned of Martin's existence within the past year.

This is especially painful since I am a guitarist and feel like I should have known long ago - Martin has taken the art a few steps beyond even the great Joe Pass, in my opinion.

Tonight we heard some amazing African poly-rhythmic things from Martin that I do not think have been recorded yet.

This man is not quite as recognized, generally, as other guitarists of similar ability - consider yourself very lucky to be someone really 'in the know' for having landed here and for taking interest in Martin Taylor!"
Astonishing

"Martin Taylor, perhaps the finest fingerstyle guitarist on the planet, has finally fouind someone who can accompany him adequately. Himself. This recording of him playing the harmony behind his melody lines is amazing, clean lines, no ego inspired flash or bluster, just great tunes styled and executed to perfection."

"I was at that show too (had great seats) and it was amazing! Grisman was a nice treat, no? Martin Taylor is something else - he kept me riveted for the entire show. He is truly a top notch entertainer. I got this cd last night also, and haven't listened enough to really critique it, but I did listen to the whole thing once, and do not regret getting it. You don't have to be a guitar aficionado to appreciate him - if you enjoy jazz or are able to recognize talent when you hear it, support this man's music. It's as simple as that. Art is humanity's greatest (if not the only) redeeming quality. This guy is an artist of the highest caliber and is more than worthy of all the praise that comes his way."
