CD Reviews

Mark Hunton is brilliant on debut release
Patrick Hayes | Bellingham, WA | 12/10/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"With Annapurna: The Towering Sky, Mark Hunton has created an inspirational musical experience that takes the listener on a majestic journey to the mountaintops of the Himalaya's of Tibet and Nepal. On this duel label collaboration, Hunton fuses the World and Jazz flavorings of his own Green Sky Music with the ambient and darkly rich tones of the California based Art label Spotted Peccary Music. Inspired by his travels and treks in the Annapurna Mountain Range and the birth of his two children, Hunton paints a colorful musical soundscape that features an eclectic blend of instrumentation and female vocals. Drums and percussion from throughout the world are enhanced by cedar flutes, acoustic and electric guitars, koto, sitar, piano, and synthesizers. A multi-talented ensemble (featuring Spotted Peccary's David Helpling) delivers a flawless set of compositions. Hunton explores vast musical territory throughout the CD and creates a truly unique world of music that ranges from ethereal and mystical to energetic and tribal."

"Spooted Peccary keeps coming up with these amazing CD artists, and Mark Hunton is definitely one! This is an adult, sophisticated musical journey through mountains and mysticism. The musical quality of the peices is superb, and every cut is excellent. There are many layers of sound so that each time you listen it gets better and better. Definitely one of the best of 1999."
