Synopsis

Album Description
Reunion is an excellent musical offering by two superb musicians who have been friends and musical associates for more then thirty years Once living in the same city (Miami), they were separated for many years by Mark Colbys move to Chicago, hence this album bares an appropriate title. When musicians of their caliber and shared musical experiences reunite, the interim years quickly melt away, evidenced here in the obvious unity between Vince and Mark. The selections presented in Reunion are of extraordinarily high quality and include quite a variety of sources, to include standards, bossa novas, jazz originals, ballads, waltzes, burners, and composers like Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Freddie Hubbard. The moods range from the poignant renditions of Miyako and "Once In A Garden", to the gentle dance of "O Grande Amour and "Falicidad", to the gutsy, rhythmic, burners, "Airegin" and "You And The Night And The Music. Challenging in scope, these tunes represent a wide variety of musical feelings that are impeccably performed.

CD Reviews

Two artists worthy of greater recognition!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD features the incredible playing by tenor and soprano sazophonist, Mark Colby, and beautiful backing as well as soloing by piano player, Vince Maggio. The tunes featured on this CD are feature wonderful melodies and great changes. If while you're listening to this CD, you wonder if you might have heard one of the songs before, chances are, you have. Each of these tunes are classics in their own right. This is a great album to sit down and analyze, as well as one you can play in the background at a dinner party. This is probably one of the best offerings by Chicago-based saxophonist, Mark Colby, that you would be able to find. Please pick this one up, and if you like Colby's playing, check out "Ensemble 9." Also listen to Mark playing with "Rob Parton's ROPA Jazztech Big Band." You won't be dissapointed."
