Product Description
21st-century art-song pioneer Mark Abel's new opera and latest art songs - intensely affecting and beautifully crafted. His unique musical fusion combines biting social commentary with the best elements of classical and rock.
"Home Is a Harbor" is in three acts and runs 100 minutes. Mark Abel wrote the libretto, which is set variously on California's Central Coast, in New York City and suburban L.A. The piece is a coming-of-age story about two sisters and a commentary on contemporary American issues - from the vagaries of the art and business worlds to the war in Afghanistan.
The program also includes the atmospheric and powerful song cycle "The Palm Trees Are Restless," sung by Grammy-winning soprano Hila Plitmann and set to texts by the well-known Los Angeles poet Kate Gale.
