CD Reviews

BLAST FROM THE PAST!
C. Lyons | Mid-West | 03/03/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's really great to hear some of Marianne's work from the 60's. If you're a fan you've got to get this one! The difference in her voice from the 1960's as compared to today is night and day...but it's nice to hear her sing some really great songs in her 'disembodied soprano' voice as she puts it. This CD isn't the typical 60's pop as you might expect. Marianne does all the songs justice and sings with a depth of understanding that someone who, at that time, shouldn't have. But that's why I love her work."
MARIANNE'S SWEETEST OF THE '60'S
Michael Andrews | San Diego, Ca. | 01/26/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I suppose this is the definitive collection of her BEST work in the 1960's. Like the other collector who reviewed this LP, I am taken back to a sweeter more innocent time for Marianne. I love that this collection has "Morning Sun", (B-side of "This Little Bird") and "Oh Look Around You", (B-side of "Summer Nights"). A few of my other faves are "Young Girl's Blues", "What Have They Done to the Rain?", "Come and Stay with Me" and "Portland Town".
The one song that I wish were not included here (or anywhere for that matter) is her version of "Monday, Monday". This also includes her last London label 45rpm, the wonderfully odd choice "Is This What I Get For Loving You?", penned by Phil Spector and originally recorded by The Ronettes.
If you're a true Marianne Faithfull fan, you may already have most of these in some incarnation, if you are just discovering her earlier works, GET THIS COLLECTION!"
