CD Reviews

Like she's Never Been away!
Glenn S. Hawley | NEW YORK, NY United States | 11/10/2005

"Mari's First Album in Nearly 15 years! Way too Long for The Best British Female Singer since Dusty Springfield!

I Have Been a Major Fan of this Lady, her Voice, Style & now her Own Penned Songs, Ever since I saw Her video for "Just what I always Wanted" on MTV So Many Years ago. She is still a Throwback to the Best Singer/performers of the 60's. But Mari has Enough of great Contemporary Qualities to Keep her Just as Entertaining & relevent as her Compact Organization Heyday.

Dolled Up is Her New Collection of 12 songs, 7 Co-written by Mari Herself. I Love Great Song Stylists, But I think when Singers sing their Own words something Just Happens in the Performance. Not that Mari has Ever been a Slouch in interpreting the Best Songs out there! Her New Spin on Todd Rundgren's I saw the Light is Just Wonderful. Songs with Light Strings & Instrumentation compliment the Warm & very Welcoming nature of Mari's Voice, not dimmed over the Years. She is Singing in a Lower tone, But No Loss of Character.

You Can Keep my Heart is the Centerpiece of this album in My Opinion. Beautiful lyrics set to Co-Producer Adrian York's Never Overwhelming Production.

Fans of Beautiful Singing, Songwriting & Singers should Run out & Pick up this Newest Mari Wilson CD. This Lady is of the Highest Order of Singer, of Any era."
Best new cd I've purchased in a long time

"I wasn't quite expecting to enjoy this cd as much as I do, but I must admit that I haven't been able to stop playing it daily since I purchased it a week ago. Apart from the opening track, it's mostly ballads and could definitely provide a nice background for nighttime intimate moments. Mari's still in fine voice and the arrangements on this cd are great. If I were to offer any criticism it's that some of her self-penned songs seem a bit too reminiscent of other songs."

"being a fan of Mari Wilson's since the days of "SHOWPEOPLE," i have to tell you, she has done it again! this disc is in my car, in my office and in my home, i can not get enough of it. i have purchased other mari wilson disc's in hopes of falling in love again with the woman who gave us the phenomnal :showpeople, with no luck til now. this is a mature, polished mari. Especially "love at last" and "foolproof." her renditions of todd rundgren's "i saw the light" and the beegee's "how can you mend a broken heart" are phenomenal.

The disc is so good that people at work who have heard some of it have begged me to burn them copies. if the disc were promoted, she could finally have the huge success she deserves"
