Synopsis

Album Description
Mandarin is the brightest star in North Texas, incandescent and piercing in the vast night sky. Exuding a sometimes woozy, often quietly sinister vibe à la Pseudosix or Red Red Meat, Mandarin?s songs evolve and expand naturally, like the best of Yo La Tengo or Bedhead, enveloping the listener with engrossing mood and textures. Mandarin?s innate pop sensibility recalls vintage Pixies, which smoothes the complexity of their arrangements to coalesce their songs into progressive, singular, contemporary pop music. Fast>Future>Present will swing this star into full view well beyond the thick Texas twilight and position Mandarin alongside the aforementioned luminaries, bewitching all those who fix their gaze upon it.

CD Reviews

Driving through Dreams

"What drew my interest towards investigating this band was Matt Pence's involvment (Centro Matic) and the fact that these guys call home Denton Texas, perhaps the most fertile vortex on the planet at the moment when it comes to a musical creative force.

My instincts were right. These boys are at the top of the creative curve in creating and borrowing new forms of expression.

"Fast Future Present" is a very dreamy driven piece of a record, with deep expressive textures alongside richly performed accompanyment that recall all the myths that music can become a force to be reckoned with.

Such a shame that it took over 2 years for a label to pick up this piece of work for others to hear.

Do yourself a favor and dive into Mandarin before everyone else finds the secret.

Dreamy,bold and courageous..............."

"What a great cd. Every member of the band adds just enough to create a perfectly melodic and moving landscape. Less can certainly be more. Possibly my favorite singer of all time?

I saw these guys about 5 years ago in Denton, albeit quite different then, they left quite an impression. The band has broken up since and I regret not having seen them live again.

Just ordered Driftline and I don't expect to be disappointed...
