CD Reviews

Maná: A band that gives music from their heart
Martyn Richard Jones | Cordoba, Spain | 05/20/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hi,I was walking down a street in Cordoba one day and I walked into a cerveceria (tavern) I ordered a small beer, after a few sips I asked the barperson if they had given me a beer with alchohol, my mistake, and he asked why ... I said, if that's not a real beer then this group that you have put on the Hi-Fi is a personal revelation, who are they? They said, "oh! its Maná", and I said, "nice music", typical Welsh understatement there, they asked me if I liked it and I said "yes, sounds good".Truth is "En el Muelle de San Blas" knocked my socks off and things just got better and deeper from there.Maná is an excellent group, who write beautiful songs, and play them very (very) well.My only regret was not having heard them before 2000. Comparisons would be sterile, but, for example, if you like Sting and his latin-american excursions then you should love this -- after all, they, Maná, are the real thing!!! Regards,Martyn"
Not quite 5 Stars, but a good collection of Mana's past hits
raysurx@worldspy.net | California, USA | 06/26/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Being an avid Mana Fan, I have all their CD's and decided to get this one, just to have it. If you've never heard or owned a Mana CD, this would be a good starter CD, but I would recommend buying all the originals instead. There are too many classic songs left out of this collection. To do them justice a real Mana collection would be at least a 4-CD set! This one is just an appetizer!"
Nothing new, just great past stuff! Five stars for the great
Juan Carlos Morales | Concord, CA USA | 07/22/2000
(2 out of 5 stars)

"Maná's music and style are great but they are in the middle of their current tour; so instead of a new album we get this assemblage of past material. Though it is all prime material and a very good CD for a Maná neophyte, it does not even have one new song; which would make die-hard fans drool for it. It would have been nice if it included those Maná rarities that are found in other artists' albums; such as "Celoso," "Fool in the rain," and "Corazón espinado" so as to have them all in a real Maná album. For true fans this CD would not add anything to their collections so this is certainly not for the person that has all previous Maná material. If you are going to get into Maná, it is best to buy the real albums as you miss out a lot of great songs with this sampler. Nothing new, just great past stuff! Five stars for the great songs... but minus two stars for the lousy way of trying to get"
