"I discovered Malipiero some years ago, on a disc with works by other 20th Century Italian composers (his was the 6th Symphony, by the way), and I've been a fan ever since. I picked this set up (for 7.50 euros!) in Spain 3 years ago. It was my lucky day. They are tonal, tuneful, sometimes a little eccentric, and sometimes with "church-like" harmonies. Malipiero reminds me of Janacek, in that he's a somewhat lesser known composer (though Janacek is certainly more famous) whose works have powerful, individual characters."
