CD Reviews

Excellent debut, good fusion, great vocals

"I was fortunate enough to read a review about this album while researching some info on another female nu-soul vocalist. After listening to some of its tracks, I decided to order the album from amazon.de (it hadn't been released in the UK as yet, and the US website didn't even have a listing for it). I am quite glad about this purchase, given that artists with this sort of talent are not easy to find. Malia's vocal style is one that's powerful, jazzy, classy, and daring from a musical perspective. The different tracks on the album showcase her willingness to experiment with big-band, jazz, hip-hop, soul, and international sounds. A couple of tracks that stand out are the up-beat "Lifting you high," her sensual and seductive "India Song," and her rendition of "solitude." It is quite a shame that this artist will (probably) never see her album being released in the uS, as her style doesn't "fit" the mold of the American urban and R&B stations. It is too classy to be noticed by fans of simple stuff like Ashanti or Mariah Carey.By the way, since none of the Amazon sites have a listing of the tracks included in the album, here they are (there's a special edition that features an extra disk with remixes, but this original version is good enough): 1. Yellow Daffodils
2. Purple Shoes
3. I Believed In Roses
4. I'm Not Jealous
5. India Song
6. Twinkling Little Star
7. Lifting You High
8. Angel Kiss
9. Solitude
10. Big Brown Eyes
11. Let It Happen
12. Moon Glows All songs are higly recommended. If you enjoy sultry, powerful, sensual, seductive vocals then give Malia a try. You will be grateful once you do. I can certainly say that I'm glad I "discovered" her."
Get a Kick out of it!

"Malia has a wonderful style. It's jazz and soul. Her voice is rich and uplifting. The music will you a boost if you are stuck sitting in traffic. Heads up to the guys: the songs are geared towards woman listeners, about girls' power. Tracks like "I believes in Roses" and "purple Shoes" will just stick in your head. I bought the CD in NOV02 in Paris, and I am hooked to it."
