5-stars just for being in existence, this 1921 transcription for Schoenberg's post-WW1 Private Musical Society is for flute, oboe, clarinet, violins, viola, cello, double-bass, piano, harmonium, and percussion--plus, of course, soprano: now that"s a line-up! Gorgeous German soprano Christaine Oelze is an expert with late-Romantic/early-Modern music. Disc checks in at :55mins: a little on the short side, but what the hey... The Linos on Capriccio Mahler Symphony No. 4; Lieder eines fahrenden gives us an additional bonus of Schoenberg's 1920 transcription of the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen for similar small forces, with fine bass/baritone Olaf Bär making the disc nearly :70mins. ." |
