CD Reviews

Surely we deserved more

"I agree with music fan USA on their review of Mado Robin and this CD does not capture the voice at its best. If she were alive today and singing in the Opera Houses of the world she would of course be prized and admired. Unfortunately she was around at a time when the world was full of great singers, Callas, Sutherland, Gencer et al and the recording companies were lost for choice. Decca/London did capture her voice in the studio and we have a live Lakme on Rodolphe (nla) but sadly not much is left for us to savour. Her wonderful range was freaky (if that phrase can be used) surely we need to preserve everthing we have of these singers and release as much as possible, Decca/London take note. And surely we need more of Gencer too. Maybe we the public should raid the archives of Decca/London and release many many recordings they have and are still holding onto. This disc at its super bargain price, is a must for all soprano lovers let alone for the high notes. Mado Robin was a great loss to the operatic world, sadly dying at an early age of 42. Lets preserve the memory of a very under-recorded artist."
Very unique

"Poor Mado Robin never got any respect. She was known, of course for her glass-shattering range; she could hit the C one octave ABOVE the high C, although on this album she "only" gets up to the B one half-step below that. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else to her. Still, this is a good album to have if only for the novelty."
