CD Reviews

Cruelty is a good thing....
Kane | plano, tx United States | 07/10/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"A very good cd. Its a slower paced Black metal album, keeping pace with bands like Tristania, or The sins of thy beloved. However Mactatus sounds nothing like either of those bands, they just play at that pace, mind you. The production is excellent, having being handeled by Samoth from the mighty Emperor. The Keyboards mix nicely into the music creating haunting atmospheres in each song. The album as a whole is very good and is worth owning for any Black metal fan. The lyrics are great(The first song has a couple lines written by Nocturno Culto). So do yourself a favor and pick this album up when you get the chance."
Love songs for Satan
Roy Samana | Israel | 02/07/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wow, what an album! Mactatus are a bunch of talented guys from Norway who deliver to us, the BM fans, one of the best albums of the last few years. This is a masterpiece of melodic Black Metal, filled with grimness but also with tenderness, sadness and beauty. The musicianship in this album is great and very proffesional and the vocals are powerful. The lyrics, I must say, are quite ridicilous and deal with (...) worshipping etc. BUT for some reason, it goes well with the music and actually fits the atmosphere, and so what we have here are love songs for Satan, songs that are very emotional and touching. Weird, huh? but true... The only fault in this album is the stupid sound effects that sound a bit amateurish but otherwise the production is perfect. For a taste of the album I recommend hearing "King of The Dark Side" which reflects the whole album pretty well. All in all, a must for all Black Metal fans!"
