CD Reviews

Jeff Dahmer turn the boy into bones, just brilliant
Hellraiser | 04/29/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I give the 4 stars to this record, beacause is brutal and the band have done a very good work, the production of the record is better than the others old Macabre albums, but i always going to say that the best Macabre album ever it's Sinister Slaughter, but don't worry this is one piece of fine death metal album, of course in the Macabre way, personaly the best songs in the record are: Dog Guts, Konerak, Do the Dahmer, The Brain, The Bath House, well i only have left to say is that i highly recommend you this album."
Just DO the Dahmer
joey fatone | iraq | 10/08/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I would like to give the album a 5 but there seem to be a couple filler tracks on it. Other than that its a great album, I would recommened it to any fan of thrash/death/speed metal with a sense of humor. The one thing you should know before buying is the vocals take a little getting used so don't take them seriously when you first here them, and don't take the album lyrics seriously either to me they're basically the lighter side to Jeffreys life."
Is it wrong to enjoy True Crime?
Gunther Haagendazs | Up High in the Trees | 10/12/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"No, not by a long shot. If you were to go to your local bookstore, you will find hundreds and hundreds of books written about serial killers. They are factual written works that inform readers about various kinds of murderers and what may have led to their brutal crimes, how they were caught, their trials and so forth. Is there anything wrong with that? Nope. Well the same thing applies to Macabre. Macabre is True Crime in audio form, specifically in their own subgenre of Death Metal called Murder Metal. Not in a single song do these guys "praise serial killers". Not once on this album do they ever say something like "Jeffery Dahmer was the man!" or "we should all be like Dahmer" or "let's become serial killers and kill people". They only write songs ABOUT serial killers. They do not praise them. I'm sick of morons mixing this up and making snap judgments about a band that they do not understand.

Macabre has been a favorite of mine since I discovered them three years ago. I have always had a small interest in reading about serial killers because I found them to be the reality version of horror movies. Serial killers are the real versions of Freddy, Jason, Michael and most of all Leatherface (he is based on Ed Gein). Naturally, after hearing Macabre for the first time, reading their lyrics and myself having a weird sense of humor, Macabre instantly clicked with my brain.

I slowly hunted down all their releases (not including the rare vinyl EPs that are limited to only a few copies). I started with a limited edition of their Murder Metal album that included the Morbid Campfire Songs EP and it only grew from there. Dahmer was the last album of theirs to come into my possession and (like all their other albums) has become a favorite. I had previously read a book titled The Jeffery Dahmer Story by Don Davis and with my knowledge from that book, I can safely say that this concept album by Macabre follows the life of Jeffery Dahmer very closely and accurately with its 26 songs.

If you ever wanted to know anything about the killer and do not feel like reading a book, start here. It covers everything from his childhood obsession with road kill to when he worked at a Blood Band and then at a Chocolate Factory to his many victims, trial and eventually his murder in prison. This album is the most diverse of any Macabre release. While there are no acoustic songs, there are a variety of elements thrown into the album including Blues. Many of the songs do not follow the standard Macabre formula but that adds to the originality and variety found throughout the album. Even thought there are 26 songs on the album, I don't consider any of them to be filler. If one song were to be removed, this album would loose some of the impact that it contains. If anything it doesn't have enough songs because Jeffery Dahmer did do a lot in his life.

If you have heard a handful of Macabre songs and are not a Macabre fan, chances are that you never will be. I understand that this band is not for everyone. They are an acquired taste. If you are a fan or you think that this band and this album might appeal to you then by all means go and hunt this masterpiece down right now. If you don't care for them and can't get past your grudge against the vocals (which I happen to love because I understand the humor in them), then chances are you shouldn't even try and should look for your kind of music elsewhere. Personally, I love this album and this band. They have never disappointed me with any release of theirs and Dahmer is no exception. Hunt Dahmer down now!

Coincidently, my locker number in my senior year in high school was E0213! That's pretty similar to Dahmer's apartment number 213, wouldn't you say?"
