Synopsis

The main attraction of the Mr. Jealousy soundtrack is three new songs by Luna. The first is a solid, tender cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy." It could be the radio breakthrough that has eluded the band to this point. Even better is the wide-ranging "Mr. Jealousy Luna Suite," which boasts a nice waltz tempo with string accompaniment before moving into a lounge section and then into bop. "Hello Little One" is a soft-pop tune that features a guitar solo that sounds like On Fire-era Galaxie 500. It's a must for Luna fans. The rest of the soundtrack has a pleasant French flavor including "Ce Que L'On Tait" from the Smiths-ish Parisian band Autour de Lucie (who were on last year's Lilith Fair tour) and the campy "Via Con Me" from Paolo Caonte. "Je Ne Suis La Pour Personne" by Francoise Hardy is a welcome classic, as are Irma Thomas's "It's Raining" and Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle." --Jim Young

CD Reviews

Great sountrack to a great movie
Shadow Moon | Fort Worth, Tx United States | 06/21/2001

"The soundtrack to 'Mr. Jealousy' is just as offbeat as the film itsself. The soundtrack features french music, alternative, and even neo classical music. Its a great soundtrack to listen to on a rainy day, or for those times when you don't want something complicated to listen to.The Mr. Jealousy soundtrack is the ultimate laidback album. If you like miminalist music, check out this c.d!"
Something's missing!

"I bought this and was very disappointed to find that it was lacking the beautiful song that plays right after Lester and Ramona break up in front of Dr. Poke's office in the film's climax. I have since discovered that it is Leonard Cohen's "Hey, that's no way to say goodbye." I can't understand why the soundtrack would be missing a song that A) is played upon the very climax of the movie, and B) is so sadly beautiful. Maybe there was some unfortunate licensing issue or something, I don't know, but it should've been there. I do really love the songs by Luna, though, and on the strength of them alone I would probably recommend this CD."
