CD Reviews

Music Appreciation 101
Robert Thorbourne | Carson, CA USA | 10/26/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a musical tribute to Cuba, literally a journey around the islands musical influences, it feels like a musical documentary yet it is done with great style and celebration of the music. It starts with the sounds of the waves as you land on the island, then you hear sounds from a broadcast from Radio Cuba, and it just gets more interesting after that. This is not something you have ever heard before. If you are Cuban, this is mandatory listening, buy it. For the rest of us this is an unbelievable musical journey. Absolutely not something you are going to hear on radio."
Authentic and Tasteful Cuban Grooves

"Master percussionist for stars such as Madonna,Eric Clapton,Phil Collins and Santana, Luis Conte brings this very exciting and colourful album of tradtional cuban music to life. The tracks on the album range from tradtional Rhumbas to Songos where Luis is joined by various family members and friends on vocals and percussion. The album is similar in style to the Buena Vista Social Club, so if you enjoyed there material this is a must for latin fans. It is nice to hear Luis playing in the very traditional form. Definitely Cuban music for the summer and those cool sunny evenings."
Actually a Cuban folks record

"Cuban Dreams is the first release to come from Luis in quite some time. Although he's been on innumerable albums to date, none has really shown what he's all about. Cuban Dreams does it. From "coro" and "son" styles, to a chance to experience Cuba's Carnival in your own living room, to a beautiful Latin jazz song (Drume Negrita)... All in all listening to this record is a terrific experience from beginning to end."
