CD Reviews

A transitional work with zest
ricciodimare | Tuckahoe, NY USA | 05/23/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the album that must have shocked all of Battisti's old fans as it officially marked his move to more approachable rhythms for the second half of the glorious 70's. Yet, his genius is palpable here, even in this apparently more commercial product of his venerable production. La batteria (drums) in fact dominates the making of his music here, and therefore deserved the first place in the title. But the music is quite a gem, perfectly fused again with Mogol's lyrics. Most of these songs remained permanently stuck in my heart because those were the years when my adolescence ended. Ancora tu (You again) is a perfectly melancholic ballad as a tasteful guitar accompanies the words of two ex lovers see(k)ing each other again. It rightly opens and closes the album. In between, other ballads of love and its trouble move rapidly through, reminding us what a fine composer and performer Lucio was. How ingenuous was to believe then that this was only a minor product! It could be treasured now as just another very fine moment of this unforgettable musician. One has to wonder what would he have composed today if he didn't have to go so prematurely?"
