Synopsis

Lowen & Navarro have always been somewhat of an enigma, bubbling under the surface with a fiercely loyal core following who know the words to every song. L&N, however, have somehow remained out of pace with the taste-making vagaries of the industry at large. Longtime fans will be satisfied with Scratch at the Door, especially the beguiling melodies of the lead-off "When the Light Go Down" and "Maybe Tomorrow It Will Rain," the kind of well-crafted songs that sum up the duo's career. On the downside, portions of this album will seem a little too close to the '70s group America to some. There is an earnest passion, however, to songs such as "Weight of the World" and "Blessing" that is gently affecting, pleasing to the ear, and soft on the sensibilities. Lowen & Navarro are probably never going to reach the bright lights, but the generosity of their songs and performances ensures them the attention of a diet conscious few who tire of daily pop corn. --John Sutton-Smith

CD Reviews

Not their best
Jeffrey E Compton | 05/14/2003
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I can't believe this was the followup album to "Pendulum". "Pendulum" is an absolute classic that stayed in my CD changer for years. Great lyrics, musical, memerable and showed great promise of things to come from this duo. "Scratch at the Door is quite a let down. The first five songs are okay but the rest of the CD seems as though they were under preasure to complete a CD in 24 hours or lose out. Five of the tracks pretty much sound alike but " Happy Birthay to u" should never have been recorded....horrible. Lets see what they can do next!"
Wow - I'd almost forgotten how great these guys are...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I don't understand how stuff like this ends up in the cut-out rack. I think this may be their best album since "Walking on a Wire" (which is absolutely incredible by the way). I love all their stuff, but I haven't listened to them for about 7 years. I just happened to be in the CD store the other day and picked this up, because I remembered how good they are. Their harmonies kick serious ass. Their voices are incredible. Another reviewer described them as one of the industry's best kept secrets...and I'd have to agree. This is quality material, and the only thing I see these guys suffering from is lack of exposure. I saw them live once and met them too...very cool people - awesome music!"
More great works from the country's best unknown duet

"I have seen them in concert several times and always walk away wanting more. Their newest release is just like their others, great! They are a great kept secret and continue to produce great music, vocals/lyrics,sound, the works. Lowen and Navarro are a perfect duet. I am ready for more. This release is played at our house weekly. Keep it up guys!"
