Great horns!

"Some of the tightest, most beautiful horn-section work I've ever heard on any modern reggae album! Great production too!"
Beautiful synergy

"U-Roy is quite simply a reggae legend. One of the first artists to experiment with the genre's dub style, his track record has a rarified stature. So how do you think the trio of Jesse Murphy (also of Brazilian Girls), Kenny Wollesen, and Ilhan Ersahin formed up with the reggae giant? They had Murphy's mother track him down, of course. Murphy explains, "My mom has some close friends who worked with The Mighty Diamonds, and Peter Tosh, and Burning Spear. So Ilhan had been talking about U-Roy and so I just called my mom and had her get U-Roy's number and then we just called him up."

The band formed around the music scene surrounding the New York club Nublu. It's an environment that lends itself to experimentation and the blending of genres as various musicians work together and groups form and collapse organically. As Ersahin says, "There's not really one thing that links the people who play at the club other than maybe a spirit of improvisation."

Improvisation is the defining ingredient in the success of this record. Love Trio's open and essentially undefined style can shift from jazz to house, as Murphy says, "without it being something that has to be announced. We essentially slip in and out of styles." In fact, the unifying theme of this particular album is U-Roy. Love Trio move from genre-to-genre and flavor-to-flavor, but the Dub remains. For example, "Algo Mas" sounds like one of the best Sade songs ever recorded, while "Hard Livin" is essentially a dub version of an incredible house record. The styles and genres don't matter on Love Trio in Dub though. The final product is one of those gap records that knowledgeable people will search out for years to come."
