CD Reviews

Two Albums Have I
J.C. Clark | 11/14/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The first album, Lou Christie, is mostly forgettable cover versions that weren't even recorded very well. On the other hand, Lou Christie Strikes Again is comprised almost entirely of originals which are surprising in their uniform excellence; surprising because in 1964 most albums were a hit or two surrounded by filler. It helped that masterful Four Seasons arranger Charlie Calello was on board to give the songs a rich, full sound. So I would recommend this purchase for anyone who likes Sixties Pop, and it is an essential purchase for anyone who likes Lou Christie's music.

My only complaint is that it seems like the sound quality could be better. Some of the songs sound slightly muffled or have a "phased" effect. And there is a major dropout of sound in the right channel on "Guitars and Bongos" for about 5 seconds. If the stereo masters are so damaged, the mono masters should be used, especially as the stereo from this period is so primitive to begin with.

"
Wonderful to combine CD quality and great classic songs!

"This cd is full of some of Lou's greatest songs, but sound better than ever due to being on cd now. Anyone who hasn't heard 'Guitars and Bongos' should get this cd if only for that. But will find they love all the songs on it also."
The missing link from 50 styled pop music to the 60's.

"Lou Christie has one of the most distinctive voices in the music business and paved the way for many song writers and singers. I feel this cd was way better and ahead of it's time, when listened to in the context of what was out there. A true talent, never fuller acknowledged by the industry or media."
