Lotus, a self-titled debut, is a collaboration between American born composer-producer Jimmy Harry and English vocalist Alex Edenborough, who met at a composer's retreat. While there, Harry became entranced with the singer's bewitching sound and rightly thought she'd fit into his next dream project. A righteous induction to the ever-expanding world music catalogue, Lotus adorns the garden beautifully. Heady and intoxicating, the duo, along with a host of magical musicians, mix smashing dance grooves with ambient texture and the exotic sounds of Balinese gamelan music. Virtually ignored by Western audiences, gamelan music takes several forms, but is notable for it's elaborate rhythms and intricately interlocking pitch patterns. Lotus utilizes these techniques to great effect, incorporating bamboo flutes, gongs, and bar instruments, which when combined, levitate to swirl around more modern instrumentation. Edenborough's vocals add just the right sacred and sensual touch, making this recording a truly transcendent listening experience. --Paige La Grone

CD Reviews

Smooth

"This girl is so smooth she should be called silk, this album is so cool, it should have been titled "ice", and believe me, this woman looks so good she should be called "felony" cuz she looks so good. For her to wear makeup is unfair to other women on this planet. This is a great album, for anybody not to buy this album it is a crime."
If you like Lotus you *must* get Babble too!

"This album is great! It's sort of a world-pop style of music - exotic yet not too ethnic sounding. It has alot of the same mood as Enigma. They don't actually sound alike but fans of Enigma seem to take to Lotus quite well and vice versa. Let's just say they're different yet compliment each other at the same time - you know ... like two bands that should go on tour together sometime.Actually, the girls voice reminded me alot of 'Everything but the girl' - it's a very similar type of singing and just wonderful to listen too. However, there is one other band that sounds ALOT like Lotus and that is Babble. So if you like this cd or are considering purchasing it, don't forget to throw Babble's "Ether" album in your shopping cart as well : )And while your at it throw Olive's "Extra Virgin" and Enigma's "The Screen Behind the Mirror" in there too!"
