CD Reviews

Mildly pleasant ride through light dance
Richard Diaz | 11/26/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Similar to her last effort, Snapshot bounces mostly between filtered-up house and Latin rhythms, with more ground to work with on two discs. One's a laid-back, loungin' affair through the lighter, brighter shades of dance, featuring vocal numbers like balmy opener "I Like It" and summer smash ""Finally" by Kings of Tomorrow. Sprightly instrumentals, as in the swirling breakdowns on "I Like This" and electric guitar jam "Night @ the Black" plot a well-planned warm-up that's neither overblown nor overdone. Unfortunately, the more uptempo second half doesn't quite lock in the listener, with a good chunk of the material chugging along minus that magic ingredient which sweeps you up with the groove. Double cuts by Joeski ably prove the pleasure of insistent loops, but most of these tracks - and an "I Am The Vibe" acapella dropped incessantly all throughout the mix - won't trigger a rewind. Who would have thought, considering the get-down dance pleasure of her previous 7 Live #2, that Snapshot would better serve the beach blanket bound?"
