Synopsis

Album Description
Domenico Liverani (1805-1877) was a famous clarinet player all over Europe. He was a close friend of Rossini, and created many arrangements for clarinet and piano of melodies from his operas as well as those of Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and others. The clarinet was considered at that time the instrument most capable of simulating the human voice, and it was used throughout the nineteenth century to help bring the great opera melodies into every home. Several of Liverani?s pieces are recorded here for the first time. Also included are two pieces by Stefano Golinetll (1818-1891), an important pianist of the era, and a friend and colleague of Liverani. Together they wrote the Mazurka "There is no rose without a thorn," dedicated to Rossini.
