CD Reviews

WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT FROM A CD?

"Lina starts out saying "Good Morning" and she ends with "What A Good Time We Had" and indeed it was. This CD has music for all preferences, rather it be slow, mid tempo or upbeat. I have followed Lina since the beginning and this is definitely her best work. You can tell how much she has developed as an artist. Enough chatter...what are we working with?

1 Intro - She's getting you prepared.

2 Wake Up - Slight head movement to a nice beat.

3 I'll Stick Around - You might want to repeat this one.

4 Joy - You'll feel the happiness flowing through.

5 Feel the Love - Is there somewhere I can go out to step tonight?

6 Between Us - Where's the party?

7 Everyday - This is just a very good song.

8 Get It Right - Listen up ladies...very nice vocals on this one.

9 Morning Star-interlude - Why couldn't this be a whole song?

10 Who's Your Daddy - Probably the weakest song...but I like the story.

11 Through the Fire - Tell the DJ to "TURN IT UP".

12 Gone - What a beat on this track.

13 Good Day - My favorite one of all...the best lyrics on the CD are on this song.

14 Walk Away - My second least favorite.

15 Mr. DJ - She's calling you to the dance floor once more.

16 Breakthrough - The body of this song is great.

17 Change Is a Good Thing - Some will like this song the best.

18 Piano - A pleasant number.

19 Glory - With Dave Hollister how could you miss?

20 Outro - The back of my neck is sore.

JUST WHAT I NEEDED!!!!...AND IT TOOK LONG ENOUGH...

"Although "Inner Beauty Movement" is the crown of her "GLORY"--This is LINA at her best. Not one of her tracks sound like another. They all have an abundance of lyrics and 'texture'. It is a work of art. Her hand is in the arrangement of all but 3 pieces and she and "Team Lina" did a wonderful job. She changed the sound up just a touch but still remained LINA the person a fan like myself loves. I have all 3 CD's and I would say that I tie "Stranger On Earth and "Morning Star" as neck and neck.

All her songs speak to your heart and I love all trax but standouts are:

4.) "Joy"

6.) "Between Us"

8.) "GET IT RIGHT"--(SERIOUSLY LADIES SHE SPEAKIN' THA' TRUTH ON THAT ONE),

11.) "Thru the Fire/Dance, Sing" (That joint makes me want to get out my whip while the light is red and "hip roll"...that beat is addictive!!!)

13.) "Good Day" and finally----

19.) "Glory" w/ Dave...what a great end to near perfection.

She makes having a convertible whayyyyyy worth havin'. I love her!!! Don't sleep.

(4.5 Stars) I'll Stick Around!

"Those waiting on new music from Lina will not be disappointed! I love her new CD Morning Star. Lina has consistently released CDs of quality music. From her first CD, Stranger on Earth, with the songs, "I Am Not the Enemy" and "It's Alright", to her 2nd EXCELLENT CD, The Inner Beauty Movement, with songs like "Smooth" and "Come to Mama"...to her recent release, Morning Star.

On this CD Lina changes up her sound a little bit, but in a good way. The songs sound different yet still perfect for her style. I think my favorite CD by Lina is still The Inner Beauty Movement, but this one is close behind.

With 17 full tracks, plus 3 interludes (which are short and non-intrusive), there's plenty to love on this CD. There's only 2 songs that I skip, not that they're bad, just not my style. I'm giving them time to grow on me. Nonetheless, the rest of the CD is really enjoyable.

Fave tracks:

* Feel the Love - Oooh wee! This one reminds me of R. Kelly's Steppin in the Name of Love, but better! LOL, I definitely get my step on to this one.

* Wake Up - Great opening song for the CD...she's off to a great start. It only gets better from here.

* Thru the Fire/Dance, Sing - This one makes me wanna dance! I first heard it on her myspace page and loved it then. So glad to finally have it! It sort of has a latin rumba feel to it. LOL

* Gone - Nice groove

* Everyday - Another nice groove

* Glory (w/Dave Hollister) - A gospel song Lina style! Great to hear her and Dave together. Good song, and not the typical gospel sound. Great closing for the CD.

I really like many more of the songs, actually most, except for "Who's Your Daddy" and "Mr DJ". If you liked her previous work, then you'll definitely be happy with this CD. If you're looking for a place to start with Lina, I would still suggest The Inner Beauty Movement, and go from there.

I'm looking forward to catching Lina perform here in LA.

Happy listening!
