"The Light Crust Doughboys basically invented Western Swing back in the 1930's but unfortunately have not been well represented in the world of CDs. There have been 2 mediocore releases from German's indie Cattle label, and one superb one from Origin Jazz...and now comes this excellent release from the well-respected Krazy Kat. Fortunately this CD does not duplicate many (if any) tracks from those previous releases. It also largely stays away from the common tracks that have appeared already on many Western Swing compilations. If you are a fan of this type of music, you certainly do not want to miss this long overdue release. Musicianship is top-notch and many songs feature the ever-awesome and energetic Dick Reinhart on vocals."

"The "Light Crust Doughboys, 1936-1941" is an enjoyable pistache of regional music that kept a lot of people happy by their radios in the 30s.

Excellently played blues, western swing, and regional country melodies gives the listener an enjoyable 26 musical items from this British import. Leave it to the British to keep history alive. I rate this 3 stars whereas I put the Hoosier Hot Shots at 4 stars. So what you need to do is buy this one but really check out the HHS, too!"
