Synopsis

Album Description
The 5-star reviews for this set showed that Flatt & Scruggs are far from forgotten 25 years after they split up. Here we have their complete Mercury recordings as well as the Columbia recordings from 1950-1959. Of course, this set includes the original version of Foggy Mountain Breakdown, but it's no exaggeration to say that every one of the 112 tracks is a gem. Titles include Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms, Jimmie Brown The Newsboy, Tis Sweet To Be Remembered, Earl's Breakdown, Flint Hill Special, Dim Lights Thick Smoke, Foggy Mountain Chimes, and Six White Horses. Bluegrass music comes no purer or finer.

Majestic American Music !

"If you like Bluegrass , Country Gospel or Traditional Country music , you'll love this 4 cd boxset . It contains all the recordings Flatt & Scruggs made for Mercury Records , and Columbia Records between 1948 - 1959 ( probably the peak years for this band who are widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of Bluegrass music ) . There are far too many highlights to mention , all I will say is that there is not one dud amongst the 112 tracks featured in this boxset ( many of which have become Bluegrass standards ) , and that you'll be amazed by the speed and dexterity of the playing by this incredible band .As usual Bear Family Records have done a marvelous job with the sound ( credit must go to Rebecca Everett for the fantastic mastering ) , they've also provided a booklet packed with information and stunning photographs of the band . Why waste your time and money duplicating these tracks by hunting down single Flatt & Scruggs cd's when you have the cream of the crop right here , and this really is some of the finest music America has given the world , and it deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the works of Duke Ellington , Louis Armstrong , Hank Williams , Frank Sinatra , Bob Dylan etc ............ I can't recommend it highly enough !"
Absolute must-have - A classic

"This is the sound that everyone that picks bluegrass wants to achieve. If you like bluegrass music and can only buy one box set - this is it. You'll also be surprised at how many of these songs you already know and love - but couldn't find on CD anywhere else."
This is the one!

"It doesn't get any better! The best Bluegrass band ever at it's peak! You get both great eras. Before Josh Graves and after Josh Graves. Josh joins them and plays the best Bluegrass dobro of his career on these cuts. They still had that great sing songy driving beat that they lost later in their Country/Folk era. And, of course, the early days. Absolutely pure Blugrass at it's best! I've been listening to Bluegrass since the 50's. Take my word for it, this one is a must!"
