CD Reviews

This is mixed by lesser, in case you were wondering

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Very glitchy and crunchy. If you are familliar with the works of lesser, then I'm sure you have your own opinion already. If not- be warned! It is definitely experimental, at times it only sounds like "noise." (not that I am too familliar with the genre). This isn't a matmos or a kid606 cd (both of whom, by the way, you should check out if you haven't already.)

This is a one-track continuous mix sort of thing. It starts out with lots of distorted growling and bleeping and banging, presented in typical mix fashion, and then degenerates into video game noise covers of 80s-90s songs after about half way. I recognized Nirvana's song "nevermind" in there, amongst others whose tune was familliar but I don't know what it really is (the top gun theme song, for example). While interesting from an objective viewpoint, and probably innovative (I've heard people complain that techno sounds like video game music for years- lesser just finally did it.) I hesitate to call it listenable.

Who knows- maybe it was just a joke?

This is definitely a chin-stroking listen., anyway. The sleeve that it comes in is mildly pornographic, in a digital, very ugly sort of way. I would say that it is not my favorite tigerbeat6 release I've heard so far (perhaps even least favorite?). I heard lesser's album 'gigolo cop' yesterday, and, while noisy, I think I prefer it over "C64 massive sidplay party mix" and the other album of his I've heard so far, "gearhound." I heard this guy used to play outside of raves, with just a drum machine and a bass guitar (+ flamethrower) until he was kicked out by promoters (And, yes, that is funny!)"
