Beyond Brilliant!!!! Smooth Jazz Meets R & B!!!

"One of the hottest collections I've ever heard! This is jazz meets R & B. Many of the contributing artists are among the top smooth jazz players of the decade. George Benson, Lee Ritenour and Gerald Albright on the opener of "Inner City Blues" smolder red hot!

Nobody has ever come close to matching the Temptations on "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone" like Lisa Fischer does. She is a soul diva! With her extensive vocal range, she can carry the lead of this song with the help of some very fine background singers to perfection. This tribute is over 6 minutes long. Accompanying Lisa is Chris Botti with his fine trumpet. In addition, Lisa lets all her passion loose on another over-6-minute song, the "Medley: War/What's Going On". Guaranteed, it will take the top of your head off! No wonder she won a Grammy in 1991! The import version has the alternate version of Lisa Fischer singing "Medley: War/What's Going On" which is listed as bonus track and is a rocking gospel anthem to end them all!

There are also mellow moments as well when Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin play "Never Can Say Goodbye" and "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". Richard Elliot plays a searing sax with Ray Parker Jr. on guitar in the tribute to Stevie Wonder, "You Haven't Done Nothin". And another very fine Stevie Wonder tribute played by Bob James is "Creepin".

Every cut is sublime on this cd. If you love Motown as well as the finest smooth jazz artists that read like a who's who of talent, this one is highly recommended for you!"
Good Band Ensemble

"This CD is one of my best BGM when I drive the car. These Motown songs played by Lee Ritenour refresh me. Compared with his previous work, his guitar's tone loses some deepness. But, I think this band's sounds don't need it. Many members back up Ritenour's guitar. Especially I like Steve Tavaglione's tone of EWI. His electrical sound is an accent of this album. Even if you don't know these original Motown songs, you will enjoy this CD."
