CD Reviews

Kuijken excellent as usual.

"If you appreciate Baroque music as it was meant to be played, on original instruments, you will love this recording. Kuijken is once again tasteful and incredible. This is a must buy."
Delicate, simple and soothing.

"These sonatas are light, airy pieces played at a moderate tempo, and while they are probably not terrilbly technically taxing, they are delivered here in relaxed, confident performances. The flute is accompanied by simple keyboard and violin parts.

I enjoy the sound a flute makes and so tend to be less demanding of flute pieces. While these are not varied enough for me to want to listen to both discs at a sitting, they are very pleasing, and get a fair amount of 'personal airplay'."

"Jean Marie Leclair's music has always been of great enjoyment to me (I especially love his violin concertos.) These sonatas for transverse flute and basso continuo consisting of viola de gamba and harpsichord are so very appealing. I do love the sound of the Baroque flute; it is so very mellow and soothing. The sonatas on this recording consists of four movements (there is one that is three movements) which contain two fast and two slow movements each. They are wonderful especially the ones in minor keys. I can visualize people sitting around a well appointed "Drawing room" in powdered wigs listening to this music. The music is so very graceful and elegant especially as played by Barthold Kuiken on the baroque wooden transverse flute. This 2 disc Accent recording's sound is superb--the balance between the instruments is great.

If you want to hear some beautiful and very mellow sounding Baroque music, buy this disc.
