Album Description

After stints as vocalist with Arrested Development, Loose Ends and Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, multi-talented soul singer/songwriter Laurnea' brings her magical mix of soul, jazz, hip-hop, electronica and singer-songwriter r & b to the fore on "The Collection", a "best-of" set drawn from her four solo albums.Her solo career began in 1997 when her Epic/Yab Yum solo debut was part of a wave of new soul artists such as Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Adriana Evans. Singles from that album, "Can't Let Go" and "Infatuation" got major video and radio play but she just missed a major breakthrough. Subsequently, her next three albums were available mainly on Japanese and European labels. "The Collection" showcases the full range of Laurnea's talent. Besides containing the hits from her first album, "The Collection" mixes breathy ballads, mid-tempo funksters and jazzy grooves. Unlike so many albums today, this set doesn't sound like everybody else. Laurnea' has the ability to sing soft and intimate one minute and edgy and full-throated the next, reminiscent of Deniece Williams and Minnie Ripperton, but ultimately herself. As a result many of her biggest fans are fellow artists! India.Arie says "Laurnea' has the heart and voice of an angel!" Rachelle Ferrell says "Laurnea's voice is a mirror image of her soul--sweet, pure and real!" In the end, "The Collection" delivers real soul music without resorting to cliches.

"Laurnea' is the type of original artist for people tired of "cookie cutter" genre artists that dominate the music scene today. Her music spans soul, hip-hop, jazz, singer-songwriter r & b, electronica and more but it's all held together by her great voice which can be both sexy/breathy and hard/energerized.

The thing is, most of her cd's have been really hard to get unless you wanted to pay big money for a Japanese import. But now this cd, the aptly-named "Collection" bring together a a bunch of great tracks from her entire solo career, including "Can't Let Go" and "Infatuation", which got some play off her great solo debut cd. It's the perfect way to get into this talented sister's music and positive message."

"A friend of mine had this cd in her car and Whoa what a great voice and songs Laurnea has. I ordered the cd the very next day. Seems she's got a bunch of cd's out, but most of them are very hard to find, or expensive imports, but this cd grabs all the best songs from her other albums and adds a couple of brand new ones. She certainly deserves to have a huge fan base as the songs on this cd are better than anything I've heard on the radio in ages. If you like soul or neo-soul, with classic melodies and a pop sensibility and accessability, yet want something a bit unique this is a cd that I guarantee will spin in your cd player for years to come. Every song is fantastic."
