Smoke-filled rooms, jaded detectives, and beautiful women with a shady past are hallmarks of Film Noir. Although filmmakers used a variety of musical styles to convey the genre's dark undertones and dangerous sexuality, Film Noir eventually became most closely associated with jazz. In OUT OF THE PAST: JAZZ & NOIR, vocalist Lauren White brings to life a range of tunes featured in some of the most popular films of the era. White is backed by an all-star band that includes a stellar rhythm section comprising Mitchel Forman, the pianist who has accompanied such greats as Gerry Mulligan, Stan Getz, Mel Tormé, and Phil Woods; Trey Henry, who has appeared on nearly 200 recordings for Henry Mancini, Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, Quincy Jones among many others; and Abe Lagrimas Jr., one of the most in-demand drummers in the country. The project was produced by lyricist, vocalist, and producer Mark Winkler, who has released 15 albums of his own and has been named for the last two years as "Rising Star Male Jazz Vocalist" in Downbeat Magazine.
