Synopsis

Product Description
Somewhere In This Room is a complete musical experience. It has a full orchestral Overture and a jazz tinged Finale. In between, there are songs in all genres: pop, rock, blues, gospel, jazz, and haunting ballads. Laura Pursell sounds like a combination of Karen Carpenter, Diana Krall and Eva Cassidy. She writes lyrics to her songs with her writing partner, composer Andrew Bonime that are reflections on relationships - good, bad, and ugly. Her crystaline voice is tinged with soul and warmth and her songs are carefully crafted blues, rock, ballads, gospel, folk, and jazz. This is an album that reminds us that music can be a strong emotional experience where the WHOLE album matters from start to finish. It is an album unlike anything you've heard in a very long time.

CD Reviews

A real gem

"A lovely CD. Very melodic and evocative. Musically sophisticated and highly textured. Great lyrics. Heartfelt. Highly recommend."
Modern music from another era
Pamela Ferderbar | Los Angeles | 09/24/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I love this CD. Several tracks, especially Not Much to Lose, When You Smile and the Finale take me back to my childhood when my parents had wonderful parties and played Getz and Gilberto and drank martinis and everyone was so sophisticated and smoooothe. I hear Ms. Pursell's voice and am transported to a more elegant era, but the music has a decidely modern twist. The gospel-ish I'll Wait allows Ms. Pursell to strut her range, which is at turns silky smooth, gutsy, bluesy and downright beautiful. This CD is a great addition to any collection, and the perfect accompaniment to a cocktail party for ten...or two. A terrific first effort!"
A Wonderful Discovery!

"I saw Laura Pursell perform here in California, and it was a great night so I immediately ordered this record when it came out. It was even beyond my expectations! Laura's voice is wonderful, but it's really the melodies that have made this the most played CD in my car right now. The songs stick in your head, but definitely in a "good" way. I've been recommending this record to my friends -- I feel like I've found a wonderful little gem of an album that no one else knows about, but I have a feeling that will change soon."
