Here the term parody has nothing to do with its modern ironic and comical meaning, but rather a parody mass is one that borrows from an existing piece of music (often secular) as the basis of its melodic themes. Here Lassus adapts a drinking song, the 'good wine' an oblique reference to Christ's miracle at Cana, or the communion wine.
