CD Reviews

Better than Vol. 1
Greg Langlois | Bay Area, CA USA | 09/18/2007

"I agree with the gentleman from Fresno. As soon as I saw that both Round Robin's version of "Land of 1000 Dances" and the Novas "The Crusher" were on Vol. 2 of this series that sealed it for me. He's right - Round Robin's version was huge in the Bay Area and "The Crusher" 45rpm single is considered a collector's item. Other inclusions you won't find often on compilations are Johnnny Thunder's "Loop De Loop" and the Pastel Six's "Cinnamon Cinder." All in all a good mix of the hits with some more obscure recordings."
Slick Soul from Round Robin

"This is perhaps the only way to get the difinitive version of Land of 1000 dances, by Round Robin. Totally eclipses any cover including Wilson Pickett and Cannibal and the Headhunters. Production value stands up today with killer bass and horn section. I believe he used to be a contract artist on one of the 60's TV raves; (Shindig,Hullabaloo,Where the Action Is,etc.)
The song was originally performed there and was picked up by a small record label and became a huge #1 hit in the S.F. Bay Area. I wore the grooves out on my 45rpm and never could find it again. What a great surprise to find it here on this compilation offered through Amazon---KUDOS!! Another Killer track is offered up by The Novas; a proto surf band with The Crusher--a pro wrestling take-off. Reverb settings must have set depth and intensity records. These two are worth the price of admission alone. Get it and Dance!"
