Synopsis

Ohio funksters Lakeside have been largely overshadowed in memory by Solar Records label mates Midnight Star. Your Wish Is My Command is hardly visionary--the group's major innovation was appearing in different thematic garb on each of its album sleeves; here, they're ready-to-please genies. But it's a serviceable slab of party fodder that reaches a peak of inspiration on a classic slow-jam version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand." --Rickey Wright

CD Reviews

Clean Funk !
John D. Washington | Los Angeles, CA USA | 05/04/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Lakeside was one of the few funk groups that did not have that "wild" or eccentric image. This CD is tremendous. "Your Wish" is typical of Lakeside's funky side. The remake of the Beatle's "I Want to Hold Your Hand", into a ballad, is (to steal a Heatwave term) mind-blowing. Otis Stokes' performance (vocals) on that tune is memorable. The other gem, and perhaps my favorite, is "Something About That Woman". The combination of light guitar, heavy bass, and passionate vocals, makes this one of the hidden treasures of the early 1980's."

"The title song is too tough! Lakeside is one of my favorite groups. Get funky with Lakeside!"
