CD Reviews

Kind Of Weak 'Best Of' Album

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Gathering a larger following with each release Lacuna Coil has no chance of slowing or quitting at this point. When a band reaches such status it is only a matter of time before their record label throws together a collection of their songs and attempts to make a buck off new fans. Half the time they make decent song selections that includes all the songs the bands known for and other times it just seems like they threw a few popular tracks onto one disc and slapped the bands name on it to make a buck, sadly here we get the later.

Don't get me wrong these are good songs and I am a long time fan of Lacuna Coil but this album seems to focus only on Lacuna Coil's later albums. Yes there is a few goodies from the past but they are over shadowed by the newer songs. Not to mention the order of the songs on the album is horrid. It's like they threw a couple old songs on the end just to say that it covers the whole realm of Lacuna Coil.

Such tracks as 'Stately Lover', 'The Secret', 'Stars' and many more have all become common radio friendly tracks from the Lacuna Coil discography. Also it would have been interesting if they had mixed in some more obscure tracks that don't get air play rather then only focus on the popular singles. Or maybe even make it a two disc with a wide array of songs from the band, preferably well mixed rather then grouping all the newer and older songs together.

All in all the quality of the tracks is good and though I purchased this out of being a fan of the group I do not recommend it to anyone. I would advise new fans to buy either Unleashed Memories or Comalies then move on from their. This is easily one of the worst 'Best Of' CD's I have seen in a while and I am sure the band had nothing to do with it aside being forced by their label to sign the rights to make this. Support the band and buy their studio albums, thanks for reading.
