La Düsseldorf's First Album--Krautrock's Forgotten Classic

"This is the long-lost cousin to Autobahn--from a parallel universe. Sharing a sonic palette and sensibility with Kraftwerk's classic, this debut is a shining gem of a record--a perfect paradox of indulgence and musical economy. Klaus Dinger's highly original vision rest somewhere between snarly parody and unabashed love of glitter and beauty. It combines the darkness of the Doors and Velvets with the light of the Beach Boys and sappiness of German schlagers. Consider Dinger a Krautrock prophet of sorts. His snarling vocals on NEU!75 predated the Sex Pistols by over a year and his reciting of the names of corporations on the title track predated Kraftwerk's "Computer World" by five. Never mind who came first. The hockey game sounds on "Düsseldorf" may have been a conscious nod to Pink Floyd, but the overall tone and voice of this record are absolutely original--a miracle of timeless, shimmering beauty, equal parts melancholia and rock'n'roll drive. Never mind my words. Put on the record and be transported to a timeless vision of Utopia--made in 70s Germany."
