Korla Pandit: remembering his BEST!
10/29/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Korla Pandit, pioneer TV star of the '50's and keyboard guru of all-time, was a true innovative genius in the music world as this CD - representing some of the beturbaned Master's works - testifies. Encompassing some 30 years of performances, from his televised "Magnetic Theme" to a glittering "Black Orpheus Theme", it is rich memories for some, and a musical introduction for the rest who listen. Few today know it was Korla Pandit who preceded Liberace in televised schmaltz. No less a performer or musician, Pandit nonetheless survived and this collection of his artistry helps to illustrate just why. Of special note are his own compositions such as "Turkish Dance", "The Hypnotist", "The Rose of Descanso", and "English Music Hall Theme", but "Remember", "Yours is My Heart Alone" and "Spanish Eyes" are equally dynamic. He is equally skilled whether at the Hammond B-3, grand piano or Theatre/pipe organ, and all three are heard. His drum effects are, simply, incredible! As for the Man himself: he is gone too soon as producer Verne Langon's fitting liner notes opine. A great "Thank You" to Langdon and Dejavu Records for this musical magic carpet ride."Remembering Korla Pandit" is a warm experience for his fans."
