Synopsis

Album Description
Kirsty McGee is no ordinary singer songwriter. Having begun performing on the Manchester band scene at the age of fourteen, she moved onto the acoustic circuit and rapidly built her name and reputation. Yet there has been more to Kirsty's life than just music. An active member of the road protest movement, she was part of the demonstrations against the extension of Manchester airport. "I think it was just making a point at the time that needed to be made that it isn't always necessary to destroy natural habitat. It was something that I felt very strongly about but it was very personal for me because the area where the runway was being built meant a lot to me. I was very upset when I heard the chainsaws coming in...it was quite a moment". Having sold all her possessions and hitchhiked to Cornwall, she began to work on solo material. Those unique experiences have had an influence on her music. "I started off writing in the angry mode with lots of strumming guitars but I guess I moved away from it. I'm much better at the gentle than the hard stuff. It's another way of doing the same thing, just a very quiet way". It is this unique approach that has drawn accolades from many in the media and attracted the attention of fellow musicians. Frost, her debut album for Park Records, has been produced by Boo Hewerdine, formerly of The Bible. Hewerdine, a long term collaborator with Eddi Reader, has recently contributed three songs to the album from Fame Academy winner Alex Parks, a record that apparently has sold 600,000 copies so far. Kirsty has also been working with engineer John Etchells, who worked on the final George Harrison album. Kirsty McGee is a unique, compelling artist and Frost a unique, compelling album.
