CD Reviews

A saxman like this can converse

"My title comes from the second track on this luxuriously smooth-as-silk sax album by Kim Waters. That track, "A Love Like This", is a 4:37 piece of original soprano sax playing that is so lush that Kim has made it my favorite of the entire album. The depth of feeling that Kim transmits through his playing of soprano sax really gets the listener in a groove you never want to end.

The whole point to the album is summed up in the title track "From The Heart" as Kim takes you along on a musical conversation that teaches the art of listening. This is a lesson we all can learn by hearing and re-hearing the beguiling "Royal Groove."

While playing this CD you get drawn in to another world with romantic mood music that will put you in a healing frame of mind after a long day of whatever."
"seductive ~ cool ~ irresistible & smooth grooves"

"This follow up album from his previous number one release on the Shanachie label ~ "One Special Moment" in 1999 ~ featuring more of the smooth-tones and style we've come to love and appreciate. Waters, hails from Maryland ~ debuted in 1989 with R&B moves ~ eventually moving toward smooth jazz ~ the transformation was as smooth, as the sax-tones he so graciously cultivates.Guest artists provide memorable moments ~ Chuck Loeb (guitar/keyboards/drums/percussion) ~ Walter Beasley (keyboards/bass synth) ~ Michael Colina (keyboards, drums) ~ Nick Moroch (guitar) ~ Dow Brain (string synth) ~ Tyrone Chase (guitar) ~ Larry "Jazz" Anthony (lead/background vocals) ~ James Waters Jr. (bass) and Wayne Bruce (guitar). Of course there are stand outs ~ "IN THE HOUSE", "FROM THE HEART", "AFTER MIDNIGHT" and "SWEET DREAMS"...each tune, completely different ~ but all signify the smooth and relaxing style of Mr. Waters. A big thank you to ~ Walter Beasley, Michael Colina, Chuck Loeb and Kim Waters (producers) ~ Danny Weiss (executive producer). Also available from Shanachie Entertainment ~ "Love's Melody" (1998) and "One Special Moment" (1999) ~ featuring the smooth grooves of KIM WATERS!Total Time: 48:28 on 10 Tracks...Shanachie Entertainment 5080...(2001)"
And from the SOUL!!!

"Kim Waters has one of the most irrestible sounds in the smooth jazz genre. Destined to be very big, Kim brings his live audiences to their feet because he clearly loves his artistry.

"Until Dawn" is a gorgeous, relaxing song with Kim on soprano sax and Chuck Loeb on guitar. "Slow Role" has sultry sax tones with a sexy edginess. "In The House" is a funky exchange between Kim's sax and Chuck Loeb's guitar. The driving beat is hot and Kim's sax is searing! "Love Don't Love Nobody" is a tribute to one of the great soul songs of the 70's. The title song "From The Heart" is purely just that. It simply must be experienced for it's pure beautiful sound. "Sweet Desire" smoulders with that sweet sax! Gorgeous and infectious!

Occasionally there are those who try to compare Kim Waters to Kenny G. As for me, I think it must have been the morning that Kenny woke up and found himself at his soulful best. The comparison however, is unfair. This cd has some of Kim's more smoother, mellower sounds. If this is what your heart desires, then look no further. This one is it!"
