CD Reviews

Kiln: a pretty generic name for an OUTSTANDING group!

"I'm listening to my Kiln cd right now. All I have to say is do not be thrown off by the five-song lineup. This hardly functions as an ep to me. The genius and attention to detail presented on this disc amounts to that of a full-length effort. Kiln's production value is amazing. Each song seems to be its own organic living being, never really doing the same thing twice. Every little piece of sound is crafted in such a way that although there is a lot going on in the song, they still manage to maintain a spaciousness that is never intrusive. The panning is so beautiful here. It's really a headphones masterpiece--or even good at home especially when you have the two stereo speakers really far apart from each other and the sounds seem to come at you from all directions. I had held out on buying this for a long time because usually all of the stuff that comes out of the Ghostly label is really a bunch of trite derived stuff, but Kiln! ...is strikingly original or at least very very good at what they do.

Artists that I would say are similar are Mouse On Mars, or I've been listening to the more recent works of Tetsu Inoue which are glitchy and abstract and I would categorize Kiln as this kind of music too, but Kiln are softer around the edges and stay more towards a traditional tonal style.

Recommended for people who like headphones."
It's time for fun in the Sunbox!

"A timely musical assesment of the talented group Kiln in their quest for new and alternative landscapes of sound. Itchy and sometimes scratchy, this music may scare your cat! If you like soundscapes and intricate tone development then you will love all of Kiln's music. My favorite is still Ampday!"
