CD Reviews

This album is awesome, but the power metal singing sucks

"The thing I look forward to on every KWD album is the song where they let the power metal singing rip loose. On Never Good Enough For You and So Pretty, So Plastic these songs were in my opinion the best on the album. The entire album was worth it because at the end I knew there was going to be this sweet track at the end that combined the best of all possible metal worlds. This song does exist on this new album, but the singing is not up to the high quality set by the previous releases. The guy sounds like he's from Dragonforce or something, and it just isn't as good at all. The transitions between the death roars and the power metal seem forced and awkward Other than that unfortunate fact, this album is another amazing KWD release, and the cover of Tainted Love at the end almost (but not quite) makes up for the lackluster power metal song."

"The sticker on the cover of Killwhitneydead's newest offering, Nothing Less Nothing More, boldly states "New Album Same (...)." And in reality, that statement is completely true. This is the Killwhitneydead we all know and love and have come to expect.

Now that they've dropped the whole charade of refusing to tour, creating rumors that they were banned from their hometown, and never showing who they truly were (i.e., Matt use to go simply by 'm'), they've given us one of their most focused, angry, and riff-roaring CD to date. With stellar music there's always a drawback and that drawback is the quotes they used this time around. They're still great and evoke every bit of emotion out of the lyrics that they should, but the previous CDs had much more memorable quotes. On Nothing Less Nothing More there's only a few that bring that sly smile to your face.

Seeing as how KWD is now a touring band (thank God!), it seems like they've really focused a lot more on the music...which is always a good thing. Listening to this CD you can tell what songs are just gonna be devastating when performed live. As with every other KWD album, there are a couple tracks that really just make it worth the purchase and the rest of the songs, while they can surely stand on their own, balance things out. The two songs that warrant this purchase this time around are Skip The Break Up Get To The Make Up and White Trash But Worth Every Cent. Skip The Break Up...sports a truly groovy riff and White Trash...has the lyrics shining brightly (particularly in the last minute or so).

My favorite songs are Time To Teach Her A Lesson Called "Replaceable", Skip The Break Up Get To The Make Up, White Trash But Worth Every Cent, Losing Weight & Looking Great, and Maybe Death Is A Gift. KWD only further themselves by putting a terrific rendition of Tainted Love on here that you'll find yourself doing a double take every time you hear it. And as always with this band, they continue their string of great cover art as well."
Something Different, Something More

"The bad boys from North Carolina have taken their deathcore sound to new heights with their fourth studio album. With all new band members behind him, frontman Matt seems more solid then ever as a vocalist, songwriter, and sampler (the band is known for its extensive use of samples from popular television shows and movies in their songs). Their brutal, violent, misogynistic music is ugly, intense, in your face, and downright scary at times. Check this album out if you need a good break from the hooks, melodies, and pop-sensibility of today's music. These guys make groups like Lamb of God and Bury Your Dead sound like nursery rhymes!"
