Kiki Dee: A Truly Great Singer!!!
Dennis Lee Cleven | Madison, WI | 05/21/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you think Kiki Dee was a one hit wonder with her duet, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", you are dead wrong. This woman has put out fine albums through the years and has had more recognition in the UK than in the US. She began as teenager in 1963 and has never gone away for long. "Amoureuse" was a huge hit for Kiki across the Atlantic and justifiably so. She finally was receiving her time of recognition in the 70s. Her voice is sublime. This compilation is great sampler of various facets of her career. There are tracks from her Motown sessions such "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and her early singles "Why Don't I Run Away From You" and "Runnin' Out of Fools". One can wonder why she wasn't a full-fledged Brit Girl like Dusty, Sandie Shaw, Lulu, & Cilla Black. She had the voice already. But the 70s tracks are stupendous including the title track there are "Loving and Free", "I've Got the Music In Me" (a hit on both sides of the Atlantic), "One Jump Ahead of the Storm", "You Need Help" and the extremely passionate "Stay With Me, Baby". Kiki Dee puts every bit of feeling from her soul into her singing. She is tremendous and this out of chronological compilation, just may very well lead you to want to purchase the forthcoming imports of her back catalouge. Kiki Dee is that good and her newest CD, with Carmelo Luggeri, shows how she has evolved but the voice is still entrancingly beautiful."
