"Khachaturian wrote this VC specifically for Oistrakh. In the years I have been listening to classical music, more specifically VCs, there is nothing like it. The first and last movements have plenty for the soloist to do; an abundance of violin bowing and finger changes, a real fiddler's workout, but Oistrakh, an accomplished player, handles it with no problem. The second movement is profound, poignant, and heartfelt; Dave's violin seems made for it. EMI is doing an excellent job of remastering these older recordings and bringing them up to speed with current competitive recordings. Really you can't beat Oistrakh he was so solid on the violin. I have seen clips of him playing. He has a free head moving delivery always observing what is going on with the look of a Brain Surgeon in operation; complete seriousness. The Taneyev VC makes for a good complimentary piece to Khach's. My vote is in, go with who it was written for OISTRAKH."
