Synopsis

Album Description
A fine collection of classical guitar classics beautifully performed and superbly recorded on location in the Texas Hill Country. Kevin McCormick, known for his lush tones, effortless phrasing and strikingly original compositions, is finally captured performing pieces by Villa-Lobos, Tárrega, Sor and Satie. Villa-Lobos' Cinq Preludes weave a thread through the collection taking us to the timeless "Spanish Romance," the delicate Tárrega serenades "Adelita" and "Lágrima," the passionate "Capricho Arabe" and the delightful choro by Pernambuco. Ponce?s "Scherzino Mexicano" and Mertz "Nocturne" highlight McCormick?s innate sense of melody and dance in this wonderful recording.

CD Reviews

Well worth the wait
Timothy Frommer | San Francisco, CA | 11/29/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been following Kevin McCormick's career for nearly two decades and know that this was a recording that he has wanted to make for several years. His patience and hard work in getting this wonderful collection of pieces released was well worth the effort -- and the wait for us fans. A talented composer and songwriter himself (see his releases in the popular music section), Kevin turns to a select group of composers from the 19th and 20th centuries for Solo Guitar, his first classical CD.

Five Préludes by Heitor Villa-Lobos are interspersed with compositions by composers as varied as Erik Satie and João Pernambuco but the disc flows seamlessly. The production magnifies the warmth Kevin generates from his guitar. No matter your listening prefences (and the rock to classical ratio in my own music collection is on the order of 75:1), Solo Guitar will appeal to all listeners. Highly recommended!"
