Synopsis

Album Description
One of Nashville's finest, the legendary Kenny Meeks strikes again on Blue Chapel. With more soul than a white man should be allowed, Kenny effortlessly masters the blues-gospel style, pulling out the most captivating sounds a dobro and harmonica can make. 'We're Gonna' Rise' and 'Lifted Up' showcase a songwriting ability you won't believe.

CD Reviews

Grassroots blues at its finest.
D. Curry | 08/29/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After getting this cd, I can say that I won't be getting any more blues cd's for a while. Why? Because I don't see how they could possibly compare to this one.

Meeks plays most (or possibly all) of the instruments on the album, and there very little percussion, which is a good thing (for this album). It is simply layers upon layers of mind-blowing guitar, and the occasional bass. Combined with Meeks' gritty, aged voice, the final product is an album that brings you back to the simplicity of life. The final track, "Shining As Stars", is a motivating portrait of Philippians chapter 2.

Meeks' lyrics present simple Gospel truths, which we are prone to forget.

Be warned, though...if you are looking for music similar to his previous album "Tell My Angel", you will not find it here. Tell My Angel is straight up country, whereas this is stripped-down accoustic guitar, slide guitar, and banjo. Don't let that deter you from buying this album. It's a gem."
