These world famous artists of Jazz met 1961 in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate one week of fantastic concerts for their Brazilian fans with the ""American Jazz Festival"" sponsored by the US State Department. The musicians were Roy Eldridge, Kenny Dorham, Curtis Fuller, Coleman Hawkins, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Herbie Mann, Tommy Flanagan, Ronnie Ball, Ben Tucker, Ahmed-Abdul Malik, Jo Jones, Dave Dailey, Ray Mantilla and singer Chris Connor. Almost all these musicians discovered bossa nova and on their return they recorded albums in that vein. But these 1961 recordings laid the groundwork for those groundbreaking releases.
