There's just a dose here of the styles coming out of the UK scene at the end of the 80s, the leaner rhythmic modes that were best espoused by the Soul II Soul set, but which touched some of the best American indie soul artists, including Stevens, who makes great use here of syncopated rhythms underneath his usual smooth grooves, a whole new level of energy that arguably makes this record his best solo effort so far. A few cuts still hit the slow jam mode that Stevens brought to play on previous albums, but the best numbers kick it up slightly more from the bottom. CD features the bonus cut Brother To Brother.
